Rochdale National Grid Acoustic Enclosure for Transformer Case Study

Project Details

The Client: National Grid
Customer: Morgan Sindall
Service: Acoustic Enclosure
Project Completion: February 2013

The Project

Employed by Morgan Sindall, Kimpton Energy Solutions assisted them in meeting the noise emissions criteria set out in the planning permission for the replacement transformer.

A noise impact assessment determined that in order to alleviate the potential noise disturbance to local residents, an insertion loss of 20dB @ 100Hz was required for the new transformer.

Kimpton Acoustics designed, manufactured and installed a new acoustic enclosure. As this is a live site and the new transformer was a replacement the enclosure had to be erected within a 2 week period. Along with housing the transformer the new enclosure had to accommodate a deluge system in the case of fire.
