Coca Cola Case Study

The Client

Coca-Cola dominates the global soft drink market and is sold in 200 countries world-wide. The global distribution process works via bottlers, located throughout the world, such as this plant in Belfast.  Concentrate is purchased from the Coca-Cola company in the US and then the finished product is produced in bottles and cans with filtered water and sweeteners. Within their contracted territorial area, the bottlers will then sell, distribute and merchandise the Coca-Cola soft drink.

The Challenge

The European Commission’s goal to achieve a reduction in carbon emissions by 20% by 2020. In order to meet this requirement, the factory is installing Jenbacher CHP units which will eliminate the plant’s annual CO2 emissions by more than 40%. In order to meet planning guidelines, the noise generated by the engines needed to be attenuated.

The Solution

Kimpton Acoustic Engineering designed and manufactured an acoustic enclosure for each of the five generator engines which meet the essential planning guideline noise requirements. The five engine cells were formed by the internal block work of the CHP building. Kimpton were responsible for the design, manufacture and installation of acoustic access doors, gable end walls, and attenuated filtered engine cooling and combustion ventilation requirements. The acoustic cell and associated attenuated ventilation ducting means that the noise levels do not exceed 65dB at 1 metre outside the CHP building, which ensures that noise levels remain within planning guidelines.
